Bahrain Airport Services (BAS) announced its sponsorship of the Asian Weightlifting Championship, which is organized by the Bahrain Weightlifting Federation under the supervision of the Asian Weightlifting Federation. The championship falls under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad al Khalifa, and is scheduled to take place over the course of ten days during October at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Bahrain.

The sponsorship support was handed over to Mr. Eshaq Ebrahim Eshaq, Chairman of the Bahrain Weight Lifting Federation, by the Chairman of BAS, Mr. Nabeel Kanoo. This sponsorship goes in line with the directives of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee, which calls for cooperation between entities in support of coordinating sports forums. BAS’s sponsorship of this event reflects on the company’s commitment towards social responsibility initiatives, by supporting events that advance the sports and youth movement, which in turn contributes to elevating the Kingdom’s position regionally and internationally.

Mr. Nabeel Khalid Kanoo, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bahrain Airport Services (BAS), stated: “We are proud to sponsor the Asian Weightlifting Championship, which is a leading international sporting event hosted for the first time in the Kingdom. As part of our commitment to corporate social responsibility, we look forward to playing a positive role in positioning the Kingdom as a prominent regional sports destination for organizing major world championships.”

On his end, Eng. Mohammed Khalil, CEO of BAS, stated: “It gives us great pleasure to be one of the supporters of the youth and sports movement in our beloved Kingdom, by contributing to sponsoring tournaments and prominent sporting events that represent Bahrain and elevate its position on the international sports map. This sponsorship goes in line with the directives set by His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport, to positioning Manama as the capital of sports, as it also reflects the importance of partnerships between entities to achieving the Kingdom’s national goals.”

Hosting the Asian Weightlifting Championship for the first time in the Kingdom is considered a remarkable achievement in the history of Bahraini sports, given that this championship has a long-standing history spanning over half a century. The tournament is expected to witness wide participation, including more than 600 participants from 35 different Asian countries.
