Bahrain Airport Services (BAS), the leading aviation service provider in Bahrain, has successfully concluded its participation in the 14th edition of Youth City 2030. Sponsored by the BAS Aircraft Engineering Training Centre (BAETC), the programme provided attendees with a unique opportunity to explore the inner workings of aircraft engines and gain insights into aviation maintenance systems.
Designed to offer internationally recognised knowledge and practical expertise, the programme introduced participants to the operations of jet and commercial aircraft engines. It also aimed to raise awareness of global aviation safety standards while enhancing participants’ communication and teamwork abilities. Attendees engaged in hands-on training using advanced inspection tools such as borescopes and received instruction on internal component removal and installation, wiring inspections, and other technical procedures.
The training featured a structured combination of classroom-based learning, technical workshops and simulated experiences. Targeted at youth aged 15 to 20, the programme was delivered across three cohorts over a two-month period. Each group received 12 hours of intensive training under the guidance of 10 assistant trainers, with 12 participants per batch.
On the occasion, Eng. Ahmed Alkooheji, Manager of the BAS Aircraft Engineering Training Centre (BAETC), said, “We were deeply honoured by the auspicious visit of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to Youth City 2030. His Majesty’s presence was a source of immense pride for all participants, and a reflection of the unwavering support our Kingdom’s wise leadership extends to national youth development initiatives.”
He added: “Our involvement this year featured a live aircraft engine display, which drew significant interest and introduced participants to the fundamentals of aviation engineering and maintenance. We look forward to seeing how this programme contributes towards developing national talent that can support the progress of Bahrain’s aviation sector, in alignment with the Kingdom’s developmental vision and the aspirations of our leadership.”
The BAETC holds the distinction of being the first training facility in the Middle East and Asia to carry the EASA.147.0002 certification outside of the European Union. The Centre is also accredited by the Civil Aviation Affairs (CAA) at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, as well as the Education and Training Quality Authority (BQA) in Bahrain.
